OUK HOSTS WORKSHOP TO SHAPE FUTURE OF OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING, IDENTIFIES FOUR KEY POLICIES

The Open University of Kenya (OUK) successfully conducted a two-day Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Workshop from 5th to 6th February 2025 at SEO Hotel, Machakos. This event aimed to develop an institutional plan for ODL based on a comprehensive needs assessment.

Facilitated by Prof. Paul Prinsloo, a Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) Consultant under the COL-OUK contract, the workshop brought together key stakeholders, including academic and administrative staff, to shape a robust ODL framework for the University.

Key outcomes included the identification of four critical ODL policies and strategies grounded in micro, meso and macro-sector factors. The workshop set the foundation for developing these policies with a consensus to finalize them by mid-March 2025.

University leadership, including Deputy Vice Chancellors Prof. Christopher Chepken (Planning and Infrastructure) and Prof. Carolyne Omulando (Academic Affairs), alongside facilitators from the Commission for University Education, actively participated in the discussions.

This strategic workshop marks a significant milestone in advancing the University’s Open and Distance Learning programmes, reinforcing its commitment to delivering flexible, accessible and high-quality education in Kenya and beyond.
